Description :
The Specialty Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist with patient management
and coordination pertaining to the patient's prescribed therapy. In addition to patient management, the Specialty Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for assisting the pharmacist in maintaining a cleanly and organized pharmacy, inventory
management, and completion of daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
Qualifications :
- Industry Registered with the Missouri Board of Pharmacy
- Pharmacy Technician (Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred)
- Possesses strong communication skills
- Possesses strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Advanced knowledge and experience with prescription claim billing (third party rejections, prior
- authorization, etc.)
- Must be compassionate and patient attentive
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages an asset
- Responsibilities :
- Provide Exemplary customer service skills and communication with patients and providers.
- Process and complete medication fill requests which includes but is not limited to the following :
- Process incoming documents / order
- Create new patient profiles with accurate and complete information and update profiles as required
- Data entry of prescriptions
- Third party reject troubleshooting
- Initiate prior authorization assistance
- Continuous follow-up with provider and insurance until final determination
- Communication with provider on status of medication
- Communication with patient on status of medication
- Preparation of medication for pharmacist verification
- Appropriate documentation of initial fill consults and refill consults
- Appropriate delegation of patient and medication matters to the pharmacist
- Shipment management which includes but is not limited to the following :
- Preparation of medication for pick-up, delivery, or shipment
- Coordinate delivery / shipments
- Confirm signatures are appropriately documented
- Notify the pharmacist of delivery exceptions, coordinate redelivery with the patient, and document appropriately. Delivery to clinics / provider offices when needed.
- Answer incoming phone calls and assist the caller to completion or delegate as required.
- Completion of daily, weekly, and monthly tasks in the pharmacy including but not limited to the following :
- Overall cleanliness of pharmacy
- Inventory management including sending and receiving orders, creating returns, maintaining adequate stock of medication while minimizing overstock, ensure accurate records of perpetual inventory
- Supply management including sending and receiving orders for supplies needed for pharmacy operation and medication order fulfillment (i.e. freezer packs, boxes, labels)
- Continuing education related to specialty pharmacy disease states, specialty patient management, and / or patient safety
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Physical Demands :
- The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear
- The employee is required to use hands to operate vehicles and office equipment
- The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 80 pounds
