Overview
Manufacturing Quality Engineer – Advanced Quality & Inspection Focus (Not an IT Role). US Persons required for this position.
Position Summary
This Direct Hire role in the Fort Wayne - Bluffton Area combines hands-on quality inspection with collaborative quality system responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience in quality engineering processes, and the ability to lead or support cross-functional teams in resolving quality-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform duties typical of an Auditor and Quality Control Analyst, including in-process and final inspections.
- Liaise with vendor and customer quality teams to coordinate inspection techniques and ensure documentation compliance.
- Support vendor issue resolution by completing 8D reports and collaborating with quality engineering teams.
- Document and resolve customer and supplier complaints, including Quality Alerts.
- Ensure accuracy and revision control of all technical documents : prints, process sheets, and inspection records.
- Develop and maintain Control Plans, PFMEAs, and Process Flows using Plex or similar systems.
- Train production personnel and inspectors on control check procedures and gauge usage.
- Operate and program CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine); support training for other users.
- Conduct Gage R&R studies and manage calibration tasks using computer-based tools.
- Respond to and resolve customer quality concerns in a timely, professional manner.
- Act as a leader for hourly quality personnel when the Quality Manager is unavailable.
Qualifications & Requirements
Previous experience working with OEM-level quality expectations (e.g., high-volume manufacturing environments).Knowledge of and experience with IATF 16949 quality standards.Comfortable using inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, gage blocks, and optical comparators.Skilled in positioning and manipulating parts on surface plates and inspection setups for measurement.Physically capable of handling, inspecting, and sorting parts, including climbing onto trucks for incoming material checks.Proficient in the development and interpretation of Control Plans, PFMEAs, and Process Flows.Preferred Attributes
Experience with Plex or similar quality / data management systems.Hands-on experience with CMM programming and operation.Strong communication skills for cross-department and customer interactions.Leadership ability to direct hourly staff in a quality-focused environment.Seniority level
