Job Description

As the Withdrawal Management Supervisor, you will work directly with the Medical Director to monitor the Withdrawal Management (WM) unit. Ensure compliance with accrediting, certification, licensing, and funding requirements. Provide basic nursing care to monitor the client's medical status. Evaluate the physical needs of each client and identify priority problems. Provide for the physical, medical, and emotional needs of all clients while ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct admission interviews by collecting medical, social, emotional, and demographic data and assess for appropriateness of admission to Detox based on written policies and the Utilization Review Manual
  • Chart in client case records all information relating to any chronic or acute illnesses, known withdrawal complications, and all medications given to client
  • Ensure the correct dispensing of medication as directed and prescribed by the physician
  • Maintain case records according to CARF procedures, assuring all information documented is accurate and current. All chart entries need to be signed with credentials
  • Observe and chart clients for withdrawal signs, unusual activity or behaviors, verbal complaints of physical or psychological problems, and report to the physician or the Clinical Director
  • Chart all pertinent data, including medical health condition, physician's orders, withdrawal complications, vital signs, medication monitoring, and course of withdrawal
  • Perform technical treatment as indicated and / or instructed by written physician orders or the Clinical Director
  • Accurately prepare, check, observe, and record all medications taken when on duty
  • Maintain clean and safe environments (e.g., wipe mattresses, change linens as needed)
  • Provide emergency First Aid and CPR care to clients as needed
  • Facilitate referrals for clients to community resources not provided by SAHLC
  • Promote professional public relations through courteous telephone manners and cooperative interaction with clients, families, and external agencies
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with CFR-42 Federal Law and Salvation Army policies
  • Facilitate seamless transfer of information between shifts
  • Cooperate and communicate with other clinical staff during transfer of clients to different levels of care
  • Lead department meetings and attend agency staff meetings as scheduled
  • Report maintenance repairs and services as requested
  • Monitor and document client's physical and medical status by providing direct nursing care
  • Carry out physician's orders and provide support to DMAs in performing tasks
  • Provide medical information and insight into the treatment plan on each Withdrawal Management client with the Treatment Team
  • Attend clinical staff meetings as assigned
  • Evaluate the needs and services on the WM unit to develop or revise policies; prepare recommendations for the Clinical Manager
  • Meet with the Medical Director regularly to ensure physician directives are completed
  • Assure proper disposal of outdated / unclaimed medications per procedures
  • Schedule annual First Aid, CPR, and Universal Precautions training for SAHLC staff
  • Order and ensure proper supply of medications and health / hygiene supplies
  • Ensure health evaluations of new staff are conducted by supervising Physician; maintain records of inoculations
  • Arrange for and ensure proper disposal of infectious and biohazardous wastes
  • Complete monthly inventory of First Aid & Universal Precaution Kits
  • Prepare monthly statistics and submit them to Administration
  • Recruit, interview, and recommend for hire to the Clinical Manager and the Compliance Specialist
  • Prepare bi-weekly work schedules and review / approve changes to timecards
  • Coordinate WM activities with the Clinical Manager or Designee
  • Provide ongoing information and open communication to Detox Staff regarding policy changes
  • Assist in annual employee performance evaluations
  • Participate in and support quarterly Infection Control meetings and prepare minutes as assigned
  • Work assigned hours and additional hours as needed to provide coverage on the Detox Unit
  • On-call responsibilities include a company cell phone to triage questions and support coverage
  • Run INSPECT reports and Criminal Background checks for all clients entering Detoxification
  • Respond to medical emergencies and obtain physician orders as needed
  • Oversee regular and part-time staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, directing work, coaching, performance appraisals, and addressing concerns
  • Ensure nursing policies and procedures reflect regulatory standards
  • Schedule staff for 24 / 7 coverage
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and / or abilities required for this position.

  • Education : Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana preferred. Minimum Licensed Practical Nurse is required.
  • Background Checks : Position requires a background check; results will be reviewed.
  • Experience : Two years of supervisory / management experience in the nursing field with emphasis on substance use disorders preferred. CPR certification required.
  • Certifications : Valid driver's license and Salvation Army Driver's qualification; Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment
  • Skills / Abilities : Proficient English communication; computer proficiency with Microsoft products; ability to learn electronic reporting systems; bilingual (Spanish) preferred; if in recovery, at least two years of sobriety with stability evidence
  • Supervisory Responsibility : WM staff
