Job Title

Under general supervision, performs a variety of maintenance duties for the Streets and Stormwater Department, such as storm drain cleaning / clearing, storm drain maintenance labor, stormwater treatment facility maintenance, stormwater water quality testing and any other related duties.

Examples of Duties

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Performs a variety of general manual maintenance labor which will require light to heavy lifting.
  • Performs labor related to the stormwater section and other projects as assigned.
  • Insures safe practices are incorporated in all activities performed.
  • Ensure that the work area is clean and neat.
  • Performs labor to assist in the inspection, maintenance of storm drain network, cleaning of storm drains, repair of storm drains, repair of storm drains covers, inlet boxes, repair of pipe and or replacement and other related duties.
  • Performs required inspections and maintenance of stormwater treatment facility in consistence with NPDES and other applicable regulations.
  • Operates equipment and tools for various tasks.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and tools prior to performing assigned duties to include but not limited to safety equipment check and appropriate pre-operation maintenance.
  • Responds to citizen and internal personnel inquiries and complaints in a timely and courteous manner by referring to appropriate supervisory personnel.
  • Remains diplomatic and is effective in dealing with customers in a variety of situations.
  • Responds and assists in emergency operations.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION|EXPERIENCE :

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • At least one year's experience as a laborer is preferred.
  • LICENSURE :

  • Valid Florida Driver's License required.
  • Valid Florida Class "B" (CDL) License with Air Brake Endorsement and Tanker Endorsement required within 6 months.
  • MOT Certification within 1 year.
  • FDEP Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certification required within 1 year.
  • Illicit Discharge Inspector Certification required within 1 year.
  • FSA Stormwater Operator Level 1 required within 1 year.
  • FSA Stormwater Operator Level 2 required within 2 years.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Group B Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, climbing, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

    UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT) : Unavoidable hazards refer to job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to :

  • Bright / dim light; Dusts and pollen.
  • Extreme heat and / or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
  • Extreme noise levels, Animals / wildlife.
  • Vibration; Fumes and / or noxious odors.
  • Traffic; Moving machinery.
