The Berlin Steel Construction Company is a full-service specialty contractor, primarily with structural steel and miscellaneous metals. We design, fabricate, and erect structures in the Northeast and in other parts of the country. We have 2 fabrication facilities, 4 erection operations facilities, and 6 office locations that provide engineering and management of projects. We are seeking a Bridge Estimator to join our growing Bridge division in our Kensington, CT office. As part of a newly established department within our organization, this role offers the chance to shape processes, build relationships, and influence the future of our bridge work. The Bridge Estimator is responsible for the accurate takeoff and pricing of all direct and indirect costs for bridge projects. This role manages the preparation of bid schedules, coordinates subcontractors and vendors, and works closely with the Chief Estimator through bid closeout to ensure the submission of competitive, complete, and accurate bids.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and assist with takeoff and pricing of all direct and indirect cost items associated with assigned projects, from inception through bid closeout, in full compliance with company processes and procedures.
- Review all bid documents to ensure conformance with any addenda or modifications.
- Communicate with clients and stakeholders to clarify project scope, resolve discrepancies, and issue or respond to RFIs as needed.
- Manage preparation of the pre-bid schedule and coordinate internal review milestones.
- Maintain the integrity and organization of all bid files, ensuring documentation is complete and accessible.
- Ensure labor rates, bond rates, insurance, and other project-specific data in HCSS are properly set up and maintained.
- Collaborate with the Chief Estimator and estimating staff through bid submission.
- Support budget preparation, DBE selection, and documentation on successful projects.
- Lead project turnover meetings to hand off awarded projects to operations.
- Occasionally support tasks outside the traditional scope of estimating as the department continues to develop and expand.
Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Bachelor's degree in civil engineering OR construction-related field.Minimum of 3 years in an estimating position on projects valued over $20 million.Minimum of 2 years of design / build experience on public / civil projects.Excellent computer skills including experience with computerized takeoff and design programs, experience with HCSS, Bluebeam, Tekla is a plus.Ability to lead in a fast-paced, challenging environment as an integral part of a team.Benefits
