Commercial Design Engineer - Architectural Millwork

Full-Time | AutoCAD & Cabinet Vision | Commercial Projects

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative

Design Engineer

with strong AutoCAD and Cabinet Vision skills to join our commercial architectural millwork team. This role is critical in turning client concepts into shop-ready drawings and engineered solutions that can be produced efficiently, accurately, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and prepare detailed drawings, 3D models, and technical documents using

AutoCAD

and

Cabinet Vision

for commercial architectural millwork projects.

Translate architectural drawings and specifications into accurate shop drawings and cut lists for production.

Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and shop teams to ensure design accuracy, manufacturability, and project deadlines.

Support submittals and approvals, coordinating with architects, contractors, and clients.

Review, revise, and finalize designs for large-scale commercial millwork including casework, fixtures, panels, and custom installations.

Maintain drawing accuracy for permitting, fabrication, and installation phases.

Assist in troubleshooting design or production issues, recommending cost-effective and practical solutions.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience as a

Design Engineer, Drafter, or Detailer

in commercial architectural millwork or custom casework.

Proficiency in

AutoCAD

and

Cabinet Vision

(additional software like Microvellum, Mozaik, or Inventor a plus).

Strong understanding of millwork fabrication methods, materials, and installation standards.

Ability to read, interpret, and create architectural blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications.

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, architects, and internal teams.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of CNC programming and manufacturing processes.

Familiarity with AWI standards and commercial construction documentation.

Experience with complex commercial projects such as hospitals, universities, retail, and corporate interiors.
