Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Tele / PCU night shift position with PCU and telemetry experience at a Level 2 trauma acute care setting.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care hospital on a Med / Tele / PCU stepdown unitUnit has 32 beds with adult and geriatric patient populationsTypical cases include cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH, COVID with BiPAP, general surgical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, and acute on chronic conditionsNurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1 : 4–5, occasionally 5–6 on nights; PCU overflow ratio is 1 : 3RNs are required to titrate drips such as amiodarone, cardizem, heparin, nitro, nipride, lasix, and low-dose dopamineUnit uses EPIC charting systemTelemetry portable monitors in rooms and a monitor tech at the nurse stationRNs must work 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and every other holiday requiredFirst to float, including supporting med / surg and PCU, and some ER holds / boardingAny color scrubs may be wornRNs are responsible for administering and titrating cardiac drips and managing adult and geriatric patients with complex acute and chronic conditionsCharge nurse is present on every shift and may have a light patient loadUnit support includes nurse aides with a 1 : 10 ratio as the goalCare responsibilities include use of Bipap, trachs, Airvo, and similar RT equipmentMust read and interpret own telemetry stripsOrientation consists of two 12-hour shifts, typically Friday and Saturday of the first weekFirst time travelers are welcome to applyTime off must be requested up front and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contractRequirements
Active ND or compact RN license required at the time of application; pending licenses not acceptedCurrent BLS and ACLS certifications required; must be active and not pendingMinimum of 2 years' recent RN experienceMust have prior PCU experience and the ability to read and interpret cardiac stripsEpic EMR experience preferredReferences required : 1 from a supervisor within the last 12 months worked and 1 from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years (including dates of employment and rehire eligibility)Copy of driver’s license requiredCandidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facilityCandidates cannot have been employed full time, part time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit facility in the past yearBenefits
