Overview

Mechanical Repair Supervisor - Off Shift at Union Tank Car Company - UTLX. This role supervises the activities of hourly staff in tank car repair, ensuring compliance with AAR, DOT and company standards, under UTC procedures.

Job Summary

This position reports to the Plant Manager or Repair Manager. The incumbent supervises activities of various hourly classifications in all phases of car repair work, ensuring proper repair of tank cars received at the shops in a safe, expeditious manner. Supervises quality control and interpretation of drawings / blueprints. Selects, trains, motivates, and disciplines subordinates.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises hourly workforce in efficient repair and maintenance of railroad tank cars and other railroad rolling stock.
  • Ensures adherence to AAR, DOT and company quality standards by inspecting all completed work.
  • Records labor hours and material usage accurately and timely.
  • Monitors production schedules and allocates work accordingly.
  • Implements safety program, enforces safety rules, corrects hazards, and works to prevent injuries.
  • Supports quality projects and activities.
  • This is an off-shift position.

Knowledge and Skills

  • High school education required.
  • Detailed knowledge of AAR / DOT regulations.
  • Several years of supervisory experience in a tank car repair facility or heavy industrial facility.
  • Knowledge of welding, painting, and coating techniques is beneficial.

    • Working Conditions

  • Enter tank cars via a manway opening approx. 20 inches in diameter.
  • Must tolerate heights and confined spaces.
  • Ability to recognize shop danger signals and promote a safe environment.
  • Stamina to perform essential functions over a large plant area.
  • Ability and availability to work considerable overtime; willingness to wear safety equipment (safety shoes, glasses, hard hats, earplugs, respirators).

    65,250.00 - 79,750.00
