Position overview Salary range : The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by step at appointment. Percent time : Positions may range from 17% to 100% time during the academic year, while summer appointments are handled on a by-agreement basis. Anticipated start : Positions usually start in January, and various times throughout the summer and in August. Review timeline : Applications are typically reviewed in February and March for summer course needs, in April and May for fall course needs, and in September and October for spring course needs. Position description The College Writing Programs at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in the College Writing Programs should an opening arise. Job Duties : Successful applicants will teach in CWP's Reading and Composition sequence or other CWP courses in writing, reading, and oral communication. They will have complete responsibility for classes to include teaching in a classroom environment, meeting with students during scheduled weekly office hours and by appointment, and grading student work. Foreign applicants must also have permission to work in the U.S. by start date. UC lecturers are academic appointees and are represented by an exclusive bargaining agent, University Council - American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement of the UC-AFT.
