What You'll Do

As an Assistant Director-Consulting you will develop, draft and maintain Principal Trust Company document solutions that meet internal and external client needs. Maintain and support suite of client agreements and forms, including various service agreements, trust agreements and custody agreements. Provide high level consultation on agreement provisions, in partnership with trust legal counsel, compliance and RIS business partners. Negotiate agreements with clients' counsel, drafting and revising agreements as necessary.

You will also :

  • Serve as a resource in identifying, interpreting, and communicating complex legislative, regulatory, and compliance issues that affect trust, custody, and retirement documents.
  • Provide analysis and guidance of trust, custody, and retirement document interpretation issues and trust, custody and retirement document design questions.
  • Responsible for overall governance and creation of agreements and document customizations for all trust company clients.
  • From time to time, may participate in presentations to various committees, including Principal Trust Company Board.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required, plus 10+ years' experience in retirement, ERISA or employee benefits related field
  • Banking, attorney, accounting, or consulting firm experience valued
  • Superior technical expertise and industry knowledge and trends
  • Demonstrated experience in consulting, negotiation, presentation, organizational and problem-solving as well as superior interpersonal, analytical and oral written communication skills
  • Ability to leverage pension experience and knowledge to define and sell value added consulting services
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with all levels of plan sponsor management, including the executive level, advisors, and internal service team, to ensure that consulting services continue to meet or exceed client needs
  • Deep understanding of Principal products and services in order to effectively problem solve and identify solutions needed to meet the needs of internal and external clients
  • Ability to effectively deploy resources, develop project timetables and ensure projects are delivered timely to meet client needs
  • Assertive and entrepreneurial
  • Travel required up to 20% of the time
  • Salary Range Information

    Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and / or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

    Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

    $123000 - $167000 / year

    Time Off Program

    Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

    This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Charlotte, NC, and Raleigh, NC). You'll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
