Job Title : City Of Bedford Public Works Maintenance Worker
Directs, coordinates, and performs daily activities of workers engaged in installing, maintaining, and repairing facilities and infrastructure of the City of Bedford.

Supervisory Responsibilities :
Assists the Crew Chief in supervision of assigned employees in the particular area of responsibility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and / or Experience :
High school diploma / GED and two years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations :
Language Skills :
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills :
The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide decimal and fractional numbers. Ability to perform these operations using various units of money, weight, volume, length and area.
Reasoning Ability :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
Specialized Ksas :
Working knowledge of municipal infrastructure systems, including water distribution and wastewater collection, stormwater conveyance and street maintenance. Working knowledge of street, water, wastewater, and drainage maintenance procedures and equipment operating practices. Demonstrated ability to operate trenching and backfill equipment in congested underground environments and to perform routine equipment maintenance and problem solving. Must have or be able to complete a confined space training.
Physical Demands :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and listen. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell.
The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to work in areas where there is vehicular traffic nearby. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The employee regularly works in confined spaces and in trenches. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
