Recruitment & selection timeline : The screening process will consist of the following : Virtual speed interview, Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT), written evaluation, oral board interview, captain / chief's interview, pre-employment background investigation, pre-employment psychological evaluation, and pre-employment medical evaluation.
Salary incentives include a 6% incentive for a Bachelor's Degree, 3% incentive for an Associate's Degree, 8% incentive for DPSST Advanced Certification, and 4% incentive for DPSST Intermediate Certification, among others. Additional incentives include city-provided uniforms, duty weapon, equipment, and uniform cleaning, an onsite fitness facility, and an annual firearms range membership paid by the City.
The essential functions / duties and responsibilities include performing police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities, representing the City of Albany by responding to the public in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner, working on rotating shifts responding to calls for police services, and maintaining availability by radio, MDT, and / or telephone for response while on duty. The position is non-supervisory and incumbents may provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent, general knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment, and the ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations. Special requirements include being 21 years or older at the time of employment, a U.S. citizen or obtaining U.S. citizenship within 18 months from hire date, available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed, proficient in reading, speaking, and writing the English language, meeting the Department's physical agility qualifications, possessing a valid Oregon driver's license, passing a thorough background investigation, successfully completing psychological and medical evaluation, meeting state requirements for certification as a law enforcement officer, being a first responder and having CPR certification within 12 months of employment, successfully passing CJIS security check and completing LEDS Certification requirements within six months of hire, and obtaining police officer certification from the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training within 12 months of employment.
