About The Position

Job Title : MRI Tech

Profession : MRI Technologist

Specialty : Imaging

Hours per Shift : 10 Hours

Experience : Minimum 1 Year in MRI Technology

License : ARMRIT Certified MRI Technologist or ARRT-MR - ARRT Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Certifications : BLS - Basic Life Support

Must-Have : Excellent communication skills, ability to function independently and under pressure, detail-oriented, and capacity to multitask.

Description :

Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.

Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative.

Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to established procedures.

Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain quality diagnostic studies.

Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and / or treatment of diseases.

Able to perform job functions independently.

Sets up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions :

Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions.

Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety.

Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification.

Reviews images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.

Responds to emergency situations.

Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed.

Observes patient condition and evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary.

Verifies the correct identity of patients prior to performing any procedure.

Ensures patient privacy and comfort, maintaining dignity throughout the exam / procedure.

Demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, and techniques based on patient age.

Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.

Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.

Understands and documents pre-procedure verification and Time Out processes when appropriate.

Demonstrates understanding of pre-and-post procedural care.

Preps patients for procedures and demonstrates sterile technique.

Prepares and may administer contrast, verifying order with contrast and checking patient GFR.

Uses appropriate safety devices to protect patients’ hearing during exams.

Understands anatomical positioning, correct labeling of body parts, and utilizes immobilization devices.

Employs critical thinking skills and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.

Equipment :

Demonstrates ability to adjust techniques for optimal study quality.

Reports equipment malfunctions to ensure timely correction.

Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment following infection control policies.

Ability to operate patient monitoring systems.

Education and Communications :

Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation.

Addresses patient's questions and concerns satisfactorily.

Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees.

Ensures documentation is concise and includes precise terminology.

Reads and follows through with daily email assignments.

Completes mandatory education without prompting.

Quality Control :

Produces acceptable images, following established exam protocols.

Ensures equipment is operational prior to each use.

Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion and prints CDs as necessary.

Maintains a safe MRI suite environment.

Operations :

Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean MRI department.

Transports and positions patients, assisting them on and off procedure tables.

Performs patient charging activities on the day services are rendered.

Applies supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.

Assists colleagues upon request without prompting.

Performs routine duties of clerical support to ensure continuity of services.

Keeps supervisors informed about responsibilities and notifies them of any issues.

Maintains individual productivity rates similar to co-workers.

Operates all workstations associated with the MRI scanner.

Maintains compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Takes call when necessary.
