Mixlab, the fast-growing veterinary compounding pharmacy, is hiring a Pharmacy Manager to support our Milwaukee pharmacy operations. This role reports directly to the Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) and serves as the primary backup for the PIC when necessary. The Pharmacy Manager will oversee pharmacy technicians and pharmacists, ensuring optimal performance, adherence to policies, and continuous operational excellence in the processing department and compounding lab.
This is a full-time, salary role with a base compensation of $130,000-140,000 per year. Pay is determined by individual qualifications, licensure, experience, and skillset.
Leadership & People Management
- Directly and indirectly manage pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in processing and compounding departments, conducting regular 1 : 1 meetings, setting clear performance expectations, and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Cultivate a culture of accountability and engagement by setting clear performance metrics and fostering open communication.
- Ensure all production and service goals are met daily, including script number and cost targets, and eliminating missed orders (orders packed after ready-by time).
- Establish critical team communications and ensure pharmacists focus on pharmacist-specific tasks while delegating appropriately to technicians and leads.
- Ensure adequate staffing coverage to meet daily demand and create contingency plans for potential gaps.
- Provide real-time performance feedback and short-term objective alignment to ensure operational efficiency.
- Serve as the final line of defense against significant operational disruptions, including regulatory, legal, and licensing compliance, triage inventory management, pharmacy cleanliness, and exception workflow resolution.
- Resolve personnel disputes and foster a harmonious working environment aligned with Mixlab’s values.
- Directly oversee performance, schedules, and feedback / coaching of area leads and staff pharmacists, ensuring structured career development pathways.
- Oversee and maintain an effective pharmacy training program, assigning subject matter expert trainers for onboarding and ongoing employee development.

Performance Management & Quality Assurance
Design, implement, and refine department-wide scorecards to track key operational and quality metrics, ensuring performance transparency.Leverage data-driven insights to assess pharmacy performance, identify inefficiencies, and present actionable recommendations to executive leadership.Conduct comprehensive audits of staff workflows and procedures to uphold stringent quality and accuracy standards.Review, Monitor and maintain records of all manufacturer initiated recallsOwn the team's monthly quality score, proactively developing and executing targeted improvement plans based on audit findings and trend analysis.Conduct final verification checks on prescriptions, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines.Maintain a cycle count accuracy of at least 95% for commercial medications, implementing corrective measures when discrepancies arise.Compounding Lab Oversight
Lead daily compounding lab operations, enforcing adherence to USPand
standards and identifying process enhancements.
Supervise compounded preparations, implementing strategies to minimize errors, reduce waste, and improve workflow efficiency.Perform initial and final verification of compounded prescriptions to uphold product integrity and compliance.Serve as a go-to resource for onboarding and tenured employees, providing expert guidance on Mixlab protocols and troubleshooting complex compounding scenarios.Work closely with the PIC and Quality Assurance teams to implement rigorous compliance and documentation standards.Ensure ongoing readiness for PCAB and VPP accreditation and regulatory inspections, proactively addressing any gaps.Operational Excellence & Compliance
Continuously monitor pharmacy throughput, workspace organization, and inventory management, identifying areas for process improvements.Ensure full compliance with New York State Board of Pharmacy and Federal regulations, proactively addressing potential risks.Lead internal and external audit preparation, collaborating with compliance teams to implement corrective actions where necessary.Develop and refine workflow procedures to enhance efficiency and ensure timely completion of lab production targets.Monitor order output vs. goal daily, investigate root causes for missed orders, and implement resolutions to prevent recurrence.Oversee and optimize daily pickups from logistics partners, troubleshooting delays and improving efficiency by collaborating with supply chain departmentsMaintain structured reviews of call-outs, PTO, and performance feedback to align staffing with production needs.Partner with executive leadership to refine pharmacy workflows, introduce technology-driven optimizations, and enhance overall performance.Obtain additional state licenses as needed to support Mixlab’s national reach.About You
5+ years of experience in a pharmacy or compounding environment, with 2+ years in a leadership capacity overseeing pharmacy operations and personnel.Proven track record of managing high-performing teams, driving accountability, and implementing performance improvement initiatives.In-depth knowledge of USP, and industry best practices for veterinary compounding.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational data, identify trends, and drive process optimizations.Exceptional organizational skills, able to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively engaging both frontline staff and executive leadership.Wisconsin Licensed Pharmacist with license in good standing.MUST LOVE PETS!What We Offer
