Position Overview :

Bear Construction, LLC is looking for a full-time Utility Superintendent to join our leadership team. This position will oversee multiple utility crews performing underground installations and site infrastructure work, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and production goals. The role requires excellent leadership, communication, and problem solving skills to direct field operations, coordinate with management and clients, and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within specifications.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Directly supervises multiple utility crews performing water, sewer, storm and electric installations
  • Reports progress, manpower, and production to the Project Manager and Operations leadership
  • Reads, understands, and interprets drawings, profiles, and specifications
  • Plans and coordinates daily activities to meet production and schedule goals
  • Ensures safety orientations and compliance with all company and OSHA standards
  • Takes initiative to coach foremen and operators on best practices, equipment operation, and production techniques
  • Observes assigned equipment to detect machinery malfunctions and ensures proper maintenance
  • Coordinates field and subcontractor personnel to maintain efficient workflow
  • Communicates effectively with inspectors, engineers, and clients to resolve field conflicts
  • Maintains accurate records of quantities, equipment hours, and crew performance
  • Upholds site cleanliness, organization, and preparation for inclement weather
  • Conducts daily and weekly safety meetings and documents corrective actions
  • Reviews completed work with company leadership to ensure quality and performance standards are met
  • Anticipate potential issues in the field and act quickly to prevent rework, downtime, or safety risks.
  • Maintain a forward-looking approach to production planningalways one step ahead of the crew, the schedule, and the weather.
  • Requirements / Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience in a management role in utility construction.
  • Excellent understanding of underground utility systems, including water, sewer, and storm drainage
  • Skilled in reading civil and utility plans, profiles, and construction drawings
  • Advanced knowledge of excavation, trench safety, and pipe installation best practices
  • Understanding of soil conditions, compaction, and backfill requirements
  • Familiarity with GPS, laser, and grade control systems
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and procedures
  • Excellent ability to lead crews, coordinate multiple operations, and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication and leadership skills for working with teams, clients, and inspectors
  • A valid drivers license
  • High standards of honesty, integrity, and commitment to producing a quality work product
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
