QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor of Science in Nursing RequiredMaster's degree in nursing, public health, or related field preferredState of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) licensure requiredMichigan Department of Education Professional School Nurse Certificate preferredMinimum of three years practical experience working with pediatrics requiredExperience working in a school setting preferredDemonstrated experience providing school nursing and school health related consultation and community agencies preferredDemonstrated skill in effective problem solving, decision making, and verbal and written communication requiredDemonstrated ability in developing and maintaining community partnerships requiredSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education and / or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
DUTIES :
Serve as a medical resource and health advocate for students and staff. Liaison to the health department. Assist with infectious disease contact tracing.Assist in identifying health concerns and treatment measures, providing instruction and guidance in the maintenance of good health practices and disease prevention.Supervise prescribed medical treatments and medication administration according to School Board policy and / or train others in medication administration. Assist with support for students with diabetes and other health conditions.Plan and implement health care plans for students, including but not limited to : diabetes management, allergies, asthma, seizure disorders.Provide assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and referral for appropriate medical care of students with acute / chronic health conditions and / or with communicable diseases and emergency situations.Certify school staff in First Aid / CPR / AED procedures.Monitor and maintain AED's and MiHeart Safe statusBill Medicaid as appropriateMonitor compliance with current state immunizations and health assessment requirements.Collaborate with school support staff for health care needs of students.Educate students, staff and parents / guardians as neededParticipate as a member of the IEP, 504 team or school committees as necessary.Develop and conduct in-service training sessions for school staff as needed.Establish and maintain effective working relationships, with students, parents and staff.Other duties as assigned
