Qualifications
Education and Experience : Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to two years of full-time skilled work in drafting, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, inspection; or other related building maintenance or construction trades; qualifying full-time
experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
Substitution of Education for Experience : Additional qualifying coursework from an accredited college, university, technical institute or vocational school in electrical technology, mechanical technology, engineering or other related acceptable field may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years.
Necessary Special Qualifications : A valid vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.
Overview
Under general supervision, is responsible for manufactured home inspection work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the intermediate, working class in the Manufactured Home Inspection sub-series. An employee in this class inspects manufactured homes for compliance with state and federal regulations, evaluates quality control programs of manufacturers, and investigates consumer complaints. This class differs from Manufactured Home Inspector Associate, in that an incumbent of the latter functions at the entry, training level. This class differs from Manufactured Home Inspector Advanced in that an incumbent of the latter acts as a subject matter expert and performs special assignments.
Responsibilities
1. Travels to assigned locations to inspect HUD homes to appropriate codes / standards. Inspection includes determining if construction and / or installation are compliant.
2. Documents findings from inspections on reports. Disseminates reports to appropriate parties.
3. Possesses basic knowledge of federal codes and standards and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) codes. Possesses basic knowledge of how to read manufacturer's design requirements.
4. Corresponds with external customers (manufacturers, contractors, licensees, etc) regarding compliance with adopted codes and standards.
5. Corresponds with homeowners regarding findings from inspection and complaints. Explains internal processes, codes and standards, and provides the appropriate rules / regulations that apply.
6. Attends all internal meetings and mandatory training.
7. Retains an up-to-date knowledge of code / standards and any changes within the industry.
