The Machinist / Swiss Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC Swiss-type lathes to produce tight-tolerance aerospace components. This position requires a high level of precision, accountability, and attention to detail. The operator will work closely with programming and quality teams to ensure all parts meet print and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and prove out CNC Swiss-style lathes (Tsugami, Citizen, or similar).
Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T drawings, and process documentation.
Load tools, set offsets, and perform first-article and in-process inspections.
Verify program accuracy, adjust feeds / speeds, and optimize machining parameters.
Use precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, optical comparators) to verify part conformance.
Document setups, tool data, and production notes for repeat jobs.
Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure work area cleanliness.
Collaborate with programmers and quality inspectors to continuously improve part quality, efficiency, and repeatability.
Take ownership of work orders and ensure all parts meet FAI and customer standards.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience operating and setting up CNC Swiss-type lathes.
Fanuc control experience preferred.
Strong understanding of G-code and M-code; ability to make minor edits at the machine.
Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
Experience machining stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and other aerospace materials.
Ability to maintain tolerances within ±.0002".
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of tooling, feeds, and speeds.
Capable of working independently and within a small, fast-paced aerospace environment.
