Youth Program Leader – Shaping Bright Future!

Status : Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Reports to : Director of Programs

Salary : $16.50-$17.55 per hour

Location : Oceanside, CA

This role is based in Southern California, specifically in Oceanside, CA (North San Diego County). It is located inside a military base installation. Base access is provided to civilian employees.

Who you are :

As the Youth Program Leader, you will be responsible for developing innovative and age-appropriate curriculum, coordinating logistics for special events, and ensuring the consistent, high-quality execution of daily program activities.

What will you do :

  • Design and implement an engaging, age-appropriate curriculum that promotes imagination and skill-building.
  • Lead and coordinate diverse activities, games, and lessons, ensuring a positive and effective learning experience.
  • ​​​​​​​Develop and execute weekly thematic programming to enhance the educational value and excitement of the program.
  • ​​​​​​​Actively instill and model the YMCA's core character values, including caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
  • ​​​​​​​Establish and maintain robust, professional relationships with school personnel and program families, ensuring clear and effective communication.
  • Manage and resolve conflicts among participants with professionalism and fairness
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and required training sessions to ensure continuous professional growth and compliance.
  • Coordinate and share lesson plans, activities, and insights with fellow program facilitators.

Other Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Provide parents with insightful feedback on their children's progress.
  • Compile end-of-year reports, monthly attendance records, and gather essential classroom resources.
  • Manage cash receipts and ensure a stock of healthy snacks for participants.
  • What experience and skills you will need to be successful :

  • Possess at least a high school diploma or GED, coupled with a minimum of 1 year in supervised programmatic child care.
  • Hold a degree in fields such as psychology, elementary education, child development, or related disciplines (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Meet current health and sanitation requirements, along with passing random drug testing, criminal background checks, and employment reference background checks.
  • Work Setting and Required Physical Activities

    From sitting and standing to walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs, you'll stay active and engaged throughout the day.

    Occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds and prioritize and multitask your work and projects with a keen memory and analytical thinking.

    Display sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to supervise children's activities safely, ensuring a world of wonder and play.
