Overview
Serves as Medical Radiation Physicist in the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare's two cancer centers. Involved in both clinical and machine physics, serving as directed in the leadership, development, implementation, and technical aspects of the Radiation Oncology programs. The Medical Radiation Physicist works under the supervision of the Chief Medical Radiation Physicist, the Radiation Oncologist(s), and the Department Director, performing physics services in accordance with the American College of Radiology Standards and regulatory agencies. Collaboration with other department physicists may be required.
Responsibilities
Clinical
- Assist with physics needs for the Brachytherapy program, including HDR and seed implants.
- Oversee treatment planning programs.
- May direct IMRT treatment planning and operations.
- Collaborate on the SRS and SBRT programs.
- Participate in quality assurance programs.
- Perform proficiency testing of radiation oncology equipment.
- Perform chart reviews, therapy calculations, dosimetry assistance, and facilitate treatment plan development.
Administrative
Assist with Radiation Safety Program.Supervise or collaborate with dosimetrists, therapists, and technologists.Coordinate with the Arizona Department of Radiation Protection and serve as liaison with regulatory agencies.Technical
Assist with Radiation Safety Compliance and reporting.Be competent in 3D and brachytherapy treatment planning.Knowledge of calibration of radiation sources.Expertise in clinical dosimetry and treatment planning.Compliance / Safety
Report safety incidents promptly.Stay current with regulations and policies.Ensure certifications and licenses are up-to-date.Complete mandatory training.Qualifications
Education
Master's Degree in Medical Physics or related field required.PhD in Medical Physics preferred.Certification & Licensures
Completion of Part 1 of Certification by ABR or equivalent required.BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.Experience
Minimum 2 years clinical experience in Radiation Therapy required.Experience in HDR / LDR treatment planning, ARIA system, Linac commissioning, CT simulation, and image guidance required.Note : Physical presence required for this role. No remote work options available.
