Job Title : Assistant Field Lab Manager (Archaeology)
Reports To : Field Lab Manager / Principal Investigator
Position Summary :
The Assistant Field Lab Manager supports the day-to-day operations of the archaeological field
laboratory. This role involves assisting with artifact processing, cataloging, quality control, and data
management while ensuring all lab activities follow established archaeological standards and project
protocols. The Assistant Field Lab Manager will also help supervise lab staff, serving as a liaison between
the field crew, laboratory personnel, and field lab manager.
Key Responsibilities :
Assist in overseeing laboratory operations, including artifact intake, labeling, processing, cataloging, and storageMaintain accurate and organized records of artifacts, samples, and associated provenience dataEnsure all artifact handling follows established conservation and curation protocolsSupervise and train lab technicians in proper lab proceduresMonitor workflow to ensure efficient completion of lab tasks that align with project deadlinesAssist with quality control by reviewing data entry and catalog recordsMaintain lab equipment and supplies, ensuring a safe and organized work environmentComply with health, safety, and ethical standards in handling archaeological materialsQualifications :
Bachelors degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field, preferredPrior experience in archaeological field and / or lab work requiredFamiliarity with artifact processing and catalogingAbility to work efficiently in fast-paced environmentsAbility to train staff effectively on procedures and protocolsStrong organizational skills with attention to detail and data accuracyStrong communication and teamwork skillsAbility to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and perform tasks requiring repetitive movementsWorking Conditions :
Position requires extended hours during active field seasons (~45 hours per week)The field laboratory is located outside of Paris, TexasMost of the day is spent outdoors in various weather conditionsWork is on a 10-day on, 4-day off cycleHotel accommodations will be providedWork vehicle will be providedPer diem on workdays at GSA ratesEmployment Type :
Full-time / Project-based (anticipated to run until Summer 2027)
Compensation :
Hourly, commensurate with experience and qualifications
Overtime available at time-and-a-half
