ZTEX Construction is a heavy civil contractor specializing in earthwork, concrete, asphalt paving, underground utilities, and overall project management. We are locally owned, and we are currently in search of a talented Concrete Form Setter / Trowel Machine Operator. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in concrete finishing, concrete carpentry, construction of formwork, operate trowel machine and be a team player, positive and hardworking.

A Concrete Form Setter / Trowel Machine Operator prepares, builds, and installs temporary molds (forms) for concrete structures, then smooths and finishes the concrete using a trowel machine and other tools once the concrete is placed

Duties and Responsibilities

This list of Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented :

  • Measure, cut, and assemble wood, metal, or plastic forms according to blueprints and specifications.
  • Erect and secure forms, ensuring they are level, plumb, square, and properly braced for stability during the concrete placement.
  • Install rebar or wire mesh and set anchor bolts and other embedded items within the forms if required by project plans.
  • Smooth, shape, and freshly placed concrete surfaces using hand tools and power equipment like a power trowel.
  • Operate and maintain various hand tools, power tools, and concrete finishing equipment, such as power trowels and grinders.
  • Inspect finished surfaces to ensure they meet quality standards and project specifications, adjusting and corrections as needed.
  • Clean and maintain forms, tools, and the work area after each shift.
  • Coordinate with foremen, laborers, and other tradespeople to ensure efficient and timely workflow on the job site.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and report any mechanical issues with equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction plans.
  • Proficiency with forming skills and various hand and power tools.
  • Experience operating concrete finishing equipment, including 3 years experience with walking behind and ride-on power trowels.
  • Ability to maintain physical strength and stamina to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of concrete properties and quality control procedures.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written format.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of PPE and All Safety Regulations and Requirements.
  • Education, Training and Experience

  • 3 years of minimum experience in same or similar level or proven progressive experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • OSHA 10 / 30 certification preferred.
  • Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Performs strenuous physical activity, for long periods, under varying and adverse field conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and / or carry up to 75 lbs., stand, walk on uneven surfaces, manually manipulate, grasp, reach out and above shoulder, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push / pull.
  • Work is performed outside in all types of environmental conditions, with temperatures ranging from mild / moderate to extreme cold / heat.
  • Additional Qualifying Factors

    As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical screening. If applicable to the contract, you may also be required to submit through a background check. Must have reliable transportation to / from work and must have a valid driver's license at time of application.
