Position : Teacher

Location : Santa Paula Early Learning Center (Ventura County)

Program : Child Care / Pre-School

Salary : $20.95 - $21.71

Status : Non-exempt (40 hours per week)

Supervised by : Site Supervisor, Program Director, and Program Manager

General Purpose

To provide direct care, guidance, and instruction to the children of the MAOF Child Care and Development Centers. To instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth that stimulates learning, according to the developmental stages of the children.

Responsibilities and Authority :

Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, assumes responsibilities for instructing and supervising groups of children, preparing and following lesson plans, assessing and documenting children's development, and supervising teacher's assistant and volunteer staff assigned.

Provide children with a learning environment and experiences which will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development.

Integrate the educational aspects of the program in the daily schedule of activities.

Following the curriculum prepares lesson plans and materials according to the general program, outline or theme, and in accordance with contractual guidelines and prescribed procedures. Lessons should include but not limited to activity areas of dramatic play, science, math, art, music, language, nutrition, fine and gross motor.

Implements safety rules and supervise children's activities in order to ensure their safety.

Organize and implement a positive and comfortable routine within the room by establishing realistic limits for the children, by effectively using time, providing for active and quiet activities, and by planning orderly transitions from on activity to another.

Plans and conducts classroom activities that encourage good health habits appropriate to the child. Involve parents in the educational activities of the program.

Selects and uses materials and equipment that stimulates the children.

Prepares and maintains daily attendance records and prepares other reports and documentation as required.

Conducts a daily health check for each child, recognizing and reporting illnesses of children to appropriate health personnel.

Conducts initial, interim, and final assessments of children's development, and documents Individual Education Plans for each child.

Conducts parent conferences on a scheduled basis for the purpose of apprising the parents of the needs and progress of the child. Provides documentation on the results for such meetings and conferences.

Maintains an age-appropriate environment that is orderly and inviting to children.

Straightens up and maintains well arranged orderly environments both inside and outside.

Assist in the supervision and on-the-job training and performance of assigned aides, personnel, student teachers, and volunteers and schedules activities for same.

Works individually with children that need additional opportunities to foster their growth and development.

Takes all reasonable pre-caution to ensure the safety of the children and insures that children are supervised at all times.

Becomes knowledgeable of the general health and of sickness in children and observes children for such signs on a daily basis. Documents any signs of ill health and immediately reports same to Center Supervisor.

Records the number of children who eat each meal / meal summary.

Establish and promote productive relationships with parents, as to increase the center's ability to help parents meet their childbearing responsibilities.

Proactive in the program effort to recruit and enroll families that qualify for the CDES programs.

Mandated abuse reporter.

Establishes safety rules that are understandable and practicable by the children and adults.

Supervises and guides classroom staff in conducting family style meals and snacks with children. Sits at table, encouraging and, as necessary, assisting children in serving themselves. Initiates and participates in conversations, discusses colors, textures, nutrition of food, and how and where it grows, who grows it, other food nutrition and community information.

Attends and participates in staff meetings, conferences, workshops, in-service training, and parents' meetings.

Helps each child to develop a sense of awareness, self esteem and be able to express his / her feelings. To develop pride as an individual.

Implements safety rules and supervises children's activities in order to ensure their safety.

Assist in planning parent meetings.

Assist in planning and supervising field trips.

Is responsible for the reasonable care of the equipment and supplies assigned.

Maintains clean and neat appearance in keeping with professional position and as an example to the children. Wears appropriate clothes, shoes and uniform provided.

Carries out any other activities, which may be necessary for the proper implementation of MAOF Child Care and Development Programs.

Requirements :

Must possess a valid Teacher Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Twelve (12) semester units - Core Courses in ECE / CD : Child Development, Introduction to Curriculum, Principles and Practices of Teaching Young Children, and Child and Family Community.

Must be 18 years of age to apply.

Pediatric First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certified.

Minimum of one (1) year of classroom experience working in a pre-school / childcare setting.

Ability to communicate, both oral and written

Ability to speak, read and write English well enough to understand and be understood by others.

Ability to relate to diverse groups of people including low-income families.

Sensitive to others needs.

Maintain confidentiality.

Sincere commitment to providing services to children and the community.

Ability to assess and respond quickly to varied situations.

Health Requirements :

Must meet State health requirements.

Must submit to a pre-employment physical examination and Tuberculosis (TB) clearance at the time of employment, to be renewed every four years.

Must submit to a flu vaccine once a year or provide waiver.

Must provide vaccination records for influenza, pertussis, and measles, at the time of employment.

Must provide proof of COVID 19 vaccination or apply for exemption.

Special Requirements :

Must possess a valid California driver's license, have use of a motor vehicle, and provide evidence of auto liability insurance as required by law.

Criminal record clearance : FBI, DOJ and CACI must be cleared prior to employment.

Fingerprint clearance must be obtained for continued employment with MAOF. A clearance number revoked by DOJ / FBI or State Licensing Agency will result in immediate termination of employment.

Computer literate (iPad, Tablet, desktop)

Must complete LIC 508 Criminal Record Statement and Out of State Disclosure.

Must complete AB 1207 California Child Care Providers : Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire, renewed every two (2) years.

Must be fingerprinted and cleared through the Justice Department. Fingerprints clearance must be active and on file with the Justice Department.

Must have positive attitude with a desire to work with and promote the welfare of children and their families.

Sensitive to the needs of the program and the children.

Sensitivity and the ability to work well with diverse ethnic, religious and cultural groups.

Maintain confidentiality.

Regular attendance, Monday thru Friday, according to schedule provided by the site supervisor.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
