About the job :

Advantra is partnering with an early-stage biotech software startup in San Francisco to hire an Infrastructure Engineer to scale ML inference infrastructure and serve hundreds of biological ML models.

About the role :

You will architect, build, and maintain infrastructure that supports 150+ ML models, ensuring high availability, efficiency, and scalability. You will work with founders to optimize systems for customer needs and unpredictable workloads while maintaining reliability across containerized platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable infrastructure for ML model inference.
  • Maintain and optimize containerized workloads using Kubernetes and other orchestration tools.
  • Ensure high availability and performance across production systems.
  • Automate deployment, scaling, and monitoring processes.
  • Collaborate with founders and engineering teams to align infrastructure with customer needs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues rapidly.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and observability for system performance.
  • Evaluate and integrate cloud services (AWS / GCP / Azure) for workload efficiency.
  • Document system architecture, processes, and best practices.

Core requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience in software or infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong programming and automation skills.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Located in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate.
  • Ability to design and scale production systems to support multiple workloads.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience collaborating with founders and engineering teams in startups.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability best practices.
  • Comfortable learning new technologies quickly and applying engineering judgment.

    • Nice to have

  • Experience with Kubernetes at production scale.
  • Infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, Pulumi).
  • Experience with GPU workloads.
  • Prior experience scaling ML or AI systems.
  • Familiarity with performance tuning and resource optimization.
