Electrician
You will serve as an electrician in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC Northwest. Responsibilities include servicing lines, substations, transformers, converters, regulators, circuit breakers, round connects, mechanical / electronic control systems, and other circuit elements found in substations and power generating facilities. You will install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load new and existing systems such as lighting protection systems. You will perform installation or repair of power transfer units which automatically control emergency generators when sensing low commercial line voltage, motor / engine malfunctions utilizing relays, timers, and time delay relays. You will troubleshoot cable systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance, or cable breaks, using such common electrical test devices as voltmeter, ohmmeter, and megger. You will maintain, replace, test, and reset circuit breakers in switch and substations, at shore installations including pier mounted unit substations and vaults. You will service, maintain, and provide short power cables from pier side shore power mounds to ships.

The Screen-out Element for this position is : 1) Using electric power-generating and distribution equipment; 2) Reading circuit diagrams of interconnects to diagnose problems; 3) Running diagnostic tests on electric power-controlling equipment in substations and power generating facilities.
