General Description
The Machine Operator / Utility Installer is responsible for performing skilled work related to grading, trenching, and installation of underground utilities (water, sewer, and storm). This position requires safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment and effective coordination with field teams to ensure work is completed on schedule, within budget, and to MCHs quality standards. The operator / installer will assist with site layout, pipe installation, and restoration while maintaining accurate documentation of daily activities and progress using company software.
The individual in this role is expected to uphold MCH Builders standards of workmanship, safety, and professionalism at all times.

Required Education / Experience
35 years experience in underground utility installation or site development3+ years experience operating heavy equipment (excavators, skid steers, compactors, etc.)Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently, including excavators, skid steers, loaders, and dump trucks.Excavate trenches and install storm, sewer, and water utilities according to plans and specifications.Install utility structures such as manholes, catch basins, cleanouts, and service connections.Grade and backfill trenches, compact soil, and restore disturbed areas to required specifications.Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and blueprints to determine pipe routes and elevations.Maintain daily logs, production reports, and equipment inspections using company software or apps.Perform basic maintenance and inspection of assigned equipment; report issues promptly.Ensure compliance with all safety standards, trench protection requirements, and jobsite procedures.Assist with general site work, including erosion control, layout, and materials handling.Coordinate with team members and subcontractors to maintain productivity and quality control.Competency
Strong understanding of site grading, trenching, and utility installation principles.Ability to read and interpret blueprints and site layout plans.Familiar with Tennessee state and local standards for utility installation and backfill.Capable with technology for time tracking, reporting, and documentation.Strong communication and teamwork skills.Physical Demands
Driving medium to heavy work vehicles.Operating heavy equipment (excavators, skid steers, dump trucks, compactors, etc.).Regular lifting of 50 lbs or more.Frequent climbing, stooping, crouching, crawling, and kneeling in varying site conditions.Required Tools
