Manager, Materials Planning

The Manager, Materials Planning will lead all materials planning activities that support clinical and commercial manufacturing operations. This role is key in ensuring the timely availability of raw materials, components, and supplies to meet production demands across multiple phases of the product lifecycle. The Manager will drive process excellence, optimize ERP-based planning tools, and lead a team of Materials Planners to ensure materials readiness and alignment with site production schedules.

The Role :

  • Lead and oversee materials planning across multiple product lines and manufacturing sites.
  • Ensure materials availability aligns with the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and demand forecasts.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels, planning parameters, safety stocks, reorder points, and lead times.
  • Own and optimize the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) process through the ERP system (JDE).
  • Manage material lifecycle activities to reduce expiry, obsolescence, and scrap.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to address material-related issues in real time.
  • Act as functional owner for Planning-related ERP modules and master data.
  • Define, track, and report KPIs related to material readiness, inventory accuracy, and planning effectiveness.
  • Lead and mentor the Materials Planning team; provide direction, coaching, and performance management.

The Candidate :

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in materials planning or inventory management, preferably in pharmaceutical, biotech, or CMO / GMP environments.
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive, direct people leadership experience.
  • Strong ERP system experience (JDE preferred), including MRP execution and master data maintenance.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and solve problems in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
  • APICS CPIM or similar certification.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement experience.
  • The anticipated salary range for this position in Maryland is $120,000 to $155,000 plus an annual bonus target. The final salary offered to a successful candidate may vary, and will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to : the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, skillset, education, business needs, etc. Catalent is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
