  • Position Summary Mesabi Metallics is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer who will support the engineering team in the design, development, and management of civil engineering projects with a focus on environmental sustainability and tailings basin management.
  • This role involves assisting with technical analysis, project planning, and compliance with environmental regulations to ensure safe and effective operations.

Job Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager – Civil Engineering, the Junior Civil Engineer will be responsible for the following :

  • Supports the Environmental Manager in acting as the primary liaison for the organization on environmental compliance matters with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with preliminary site assessments to evaluate environmental conditions and impacts.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards related to civil engineering projects.
  • Assist with preparation of environmental impact reports and documentation required for regulatory submissions and project approvals.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable engineering solutions and practices to minimize environmental impact.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports and documentation related to tailings basin management and performance.
  • Support the monitoring of tailings basin performance and stability, including regular inspections and data collection.
  • Skills and Qualifications At least 3 years’ civil engineering experience, preferably with mining / manufacturing company.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental regulations and tailings management practices.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and engineering design tools.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • Education Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Physical Requirements This position is a mixture of field work and office duties.
  • Field work will be conducted daily throughout the year so exposure to the elements (rain, snow, cold, heat, etc) is to be expected.
  • The office duties will require work in front of a laptop, desk, and phone.
  • Salary Range :

  • $75,000 - $121,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
