Overview
Stationary Engineer role at Advocate Health Care. Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment to provide utility services for a healthy and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Operates all campus heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment including boilers, steam absorption and centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, fans, pumps and systems in a manner that optimizes efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort per department policies and procedures with moderate level of guidance / assistance.
- Maintains accurate records and reports on all equipment startup, failures, problems, work in progress and completed work through logbooks and CMMS with moderate level of guidance / assistance.
- Utilizes Building Automation System (BAS) to monitor and control HVAC equipment, responds to alarms promptly, and optimizes operation using trending reports as appropriate.
- Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC and other equipment as assigned per established procedures including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, testing, flushing, minor repairs, rebuilding and replacing parts / components to ensure systems stay within operating parameters.
- Troubleshoots HVAC issues, determines root causes, and executes repairs or installations with minimal impact to hospital and patient care; requests assistance as warranted.
- Responds to building occupant complaints in a timely and professional manner and communicates status of corrective action to the requester.
- Maintains daily logs, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files to comply with local, state and federal regulatory requirements as directed.
- Performs routine general maintenance including painting, plumbing, carpentry, equipment testing and repair, ventilation, lighting, electrical, groundskeeping and snow removal; supports repairs on mechanical, electrical, building and other critical systems with appropriate guidance.
- Provides timely response to service calls and work orders; documents tasks and work time in CMMS.
- Reads blueprints and maintenance manuals to complete assignments.
Licensure, Registration, And / or Certification
Stationary Engineer license from the municipality of work location or Power Engineer certification (1st-5th Class) from NIULPE or ASOPE. Equivalent certifications from federal organizations (e.g., U.S. Navy) will be considered.Valid Driver's LicenseEducation Required
Advanced training beyond high school that includes technical training.Experience Required
2-4 years of stationary engineering experience.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Moderate knowledge of applicable codes / regulations pertaining to assigned equipment and operations.Proficient computer skills (CMMS, building automation, Microsoft Office).Good communication and interpersonal skills.Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, crawl, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently.Lift up to 15 lbs from floor to overhead; up to 50 lbs from floor to chest-level; carry up to 50 lbs at waist height.Push / pull with 50 lbs of force.Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards; travel may be required; may be exposed to road / weather hazards.Operates equipment necessary to perform the job.This job description outlines the general nature and level of work expected.
