Newport Aquarium Biologist Aide - Part Time

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Plays integral role in Commissary and animal diet preparation
• Assist Animal Care Biologists with essential daily tasks
• Reports to the Assistant Curator
• Keeps support areas clean, organized and safe
• Complies with all SOPs pertaining to daily operations and safety
• Maintains records in accordance with protocols or as directed
• Cross-trains with other staff within the department : fresh and saltwater systems, reptiles, amphibians, and penguins.
• Promotes conservation, animal welfare, and good stewardship in daily tasks
• Shift : Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday : 8am to 2pm

QUALIFICATIONS :

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Note : Position will involve exposure to inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous and unpredictable animal species, and potentially dangerous machinery, restraint devices and toxic chemicals and / or drugs. Occasional use of protective clothing or equipment is required. (e.g. goggles, mask, gloves, and gowns)
