About The Position

Job Title : Med / Surg Nurse

Experience : 2 years of recent Med / Surg RN experience in a hospital setting

License : Must have a state RN license

Certifications : ACLS, BLS, PALS (must be through the American Heart Association)

Must-Have :

Candidates may be required to care for pediatric / adolescent patients on occasion.

Candidates might need to float between campuses depending on facility census.

Description :

Med / Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities include consulting and coordinating with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.

Med / Surg Nurses prepare and administer prescribed medications and record them, reporting adverse reactions in accordance with policy.

They educate patients on surgical procedures and record patients' medical information and vital signs.

Nurses monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, interpreting and recording electronic displays.

They initiate corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptoms.

Bedside care is provided for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients.

Nurses initiate a patient education plan as prescribed by the physician.

They teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness / injury, explaining post-treatment home care needs.

Responsibilities include changing dressings, inserting catheters, and starting IVs.

Nurses prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatment.

They respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols.

Participation in discharge planning is required.

Time management skills are essential.

All care information must be recorded concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner.

Additional position-related duties may be assigned depending on the assignment setting.
