Staff Attorney - South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission
The South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission Office of General Counsel is seeking a staff attorney with 1-3 years of experience to provide legal advice and counsel to the Commissioners. Responsibilities include drafting Single Commissioner opinions, appellate panel opinions, legislation, managing the appellate order triage process, and assisting with legal education and outreach programs. The Staff Attorney reports to the General Counsel and works under limited supervision.
Job Duties :
- Research and prepare South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission Appellate Panel orders consistent with the Commission's decisions, consulting with the Panel, and managing the order process from drafting to service.
- Advise Commissioners on matters before them for judicial decisions, prepare decisions and orders, and memoranda for the Legal Department.
- Represent the Commission in pending litigation under the supervision of the General Counsel.
- Advise and counsel Commissioners on South Carolina Law, including the Workers' Compensation Act, Rules of Civil Procedure, Administrative Procedures Act, FOIA, Rules of Evidence, Code of Judicial Conduct, and the Ethics Act.
- Provide educational outreach to stakeholders through course materials, presentations, and seminars. Monitor relevant court decisions and legislation.
- Research, draft, and prepare administrative regulations for approval.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Juris Doctor degree or equivalent from an accredited law school and practicing attorney experience.South Carolina Bar Membership in good standing with an active license.Completion of Rule 403 requirements.Preferred Qualifications (not required) :
Experience or coursework related to Workers' Compensation.Law Review or Law Journal experience.Prior judicial clerkship experience.Additional Information :
