TITLE : Lead Kitchen Manager

DEPARTMENT : Programs

SUPERVISOR : Director, Programs

STATUS : Full-time, Non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta is seeking a reliable and passionate Lead Kitchen Manager to join the team. The Lead Kitchen Manager plays a central role in overseeing daily kitchen operations at the Club and serves as the primary point of contact between the on-site kitchen team and the Food Program Manager. This position leads kitchen staff, ensures consistent meal service, and supports full compliance with child nutrition programs. The Lead Kitchen Manager ensures that youth receive safe, nutritious meals in a clean and organized environment that reflects the values of the Boys & Girls Club. The person who fills this position will also be responsible for the items listed below and will work under the Programs Director.

KEY ROLES & ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create menus in collaboration with the Food Program Manager to ensure nutritional compliance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Follow the daily menu to ensure meals are prepared according to program guidelines, including SFSP meal pattern requirements.
  • Manage weekly food and supply ordering in coordination with the Food Program Manager.
  • Handle weekly truck deliveries, receiving, inspecting, and properly storing food and supplies.
  • Monitor and maintain kitchen inventory; complete weekly and monthly inventory control sheets.
  • Adjust meal planning based on attendance and food availability to reduce waste.
  • Implement efficiency improvements to streamline kitchen operations.
  • Ensure all kitchen logs (temperature checks, food production, cleaning checklists) are accurately completed and submitted on time.
  • Complete and maintain required paperwork, including meal rosters and inventory records.
  • Support reporting requirements, data tracking, and program updates as directed by food service leadership.
  • Train kitchen team members on food safety, cleanliness, meal preparation procedures, and program compliance.
  • Serve as the main liaison between club kitchen operations and the Food Program Manager.
  • Fill in as kitchen staff at any club location as needed to maintain meal service.
  • Ensure all meals meet food quality standards and adhere to health department codes and regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of all kitchen areas.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with staff, members, and partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support food service operations and club programming.

RELATIONSHIPS :

  • Internal : Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive / provide information, discuss issues, explain, or interpret guidelines / instructions.
  • External : Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members' parents, and others to assist in resolving problems.
  • EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Servsafe Certification is preferred but not required
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, handling and preparing food in large quantities.
  • Ability to lead a team and work in a fast-paced, youth-centered environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Club.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS

    Daily contact with club staff, club and teen center members, outside organizations and individuals to plan, coordinate and deliver programs. Normal internal office environment. Travel to special events and field trips may be required. Must be able to work daily afternoon / evening hours. Occasional weekend hours may be required to accomplish objectives. The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighing in excess of 25lbs. Outdoor work and moderate physically demanding activities may be required on occasion.
