Your Role on the Team

Position Summary :

The Geriatric Emergency Nurse Initiative Expert (GENIE) is a registered nurse who specializes in providing care to elderly patients within the emergency department setting, possessing advanced knowledge of geriatric assessment, conditions, and management strategies, often acting as a resource for other staff regarding the unique needs of older adults in emergency situations. Under the supervision of the Geriatric Emergency Department (ED) Medical Director, the GENIE will act in a dual consultant and coordinator role, performing screenings and assessments, advising on care and discharge planning, and coordinating follow up for identified patients 65 years and older.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications :

• Strong clinical skills in emergency nursing
• Minimum 3 years recent emergency room RN experience
• Geriatric Emergency Nurse Education (GENE) or Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders (NICHE) certification required within six months of hire.
• CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification w / in 30 days of hire
• Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing
