Position Summary

Leadership role responsible for identifying, evaluating and ensuring execution of commercial opportunities across the North Fuels Value Chain in alignment with MPC's strategic direction. Includes acquisitions, divestitures, asset enhancements, and project development and economic analysis. This role will engage on all value chain commodities and coordinate cross-functional reviews for value chain capital allocation. The position maintains a broad awareness of industry economics and trends, fosters strong industry relationships, and facilitates strategic alignment and prioritization of business improvement initiatives. Key responsibilities include leading cross-functional teams to assess value chain performance, developing improvement plans to address competitive gaps, and maximizing asset value. The role also prepares business cases for executive review, leads acquisition and merger activities from a commercial perspective, manages key contractual relationships, and provides commercial leadership and guidance for projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifies and evaluates opportunities to create value for MPC through acquisitions, enhancement of existing assets, or development of projects consistent with MPC's strategic direction.
  • Maintains high level of awareness of developments in midstream and downstream industries focusing on identification of opportunities with commercial viability and synergies with existing assets. Develops and maintains strong industry relationships.
  • Facilitates strategic alignment and prioritization of business improvement initiatives for assigned assets and the value chain. Leads cross-functional teams in evaluating business performance against competitive benchmarks to identify gaps.
  • Develops business improvement plan to address competitive gaps and maximize asset value such as, but not limited to, acquiring assets, merging with other businesses, expanding infrastructure to unleash value, evaluating growth opportunities in new markets, exploring new relationships and revenue streams and divesting of non-performing assets.
  • Directs complex economic evaluations coordinating development of financial models in collaboration with Strategic Finance and other corporate groups.
  • Recommends actions based on asset valuation and fit with strategic plans. Prepares business cases for review and decision by executive management and boards of directors.
  • Leads Commercial activities for acquisition and merger processes. Leads Commercial due diligence and action plan with relevant milestones and appropriate measurements.
  • Provides strategic guidance on the contractual relationship with MPLX and manages agreements between MPC and MPLX.
  • Provides guidance for project managers on the commercial development and business development teams to prepare and present materials to executive leadership.
  • Provides leadership guidance for strategic commercial skills development and training for the full multi-commodity value chain.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or related discipline required. Ten (10) years of Commercial, Business Development, or Merger and Acquisition (M&A) experience for midstream or downstream energy industries required.

Five (5) or more years of Business Development, or Merger and Acquisition (M&A) experience preferred
