POSITION : Performance Engineer Intern

POSITION SUMMARY :
The Performance Engineering Intern will work with the Asset Management team for 1012 weeks, supporting project-based analysis, reporting, process improvement, and project analytics for U.S. utility-scale renewable energy projects. The internship is based in Durham, North Carolina, and provides opportunities for hands-on learning in operational asset management and performance engineering. This is a full-time position located in Durham, North Carolina, reporting to the Head of Asset Management.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Analyze solar plant performance data to identify performance trends, anomalies, and actionable insights for asset improvement.
- Conduct a focused research and analysis project on factors impacting solar farm performanceincluding weather, irradiance, equipment degradation, and soilingand summarize findings in a report.
- Prepare at least two detailed performance reports (and one presentation) communicating key findings to internal stakeholders, with guidance from technical mentors.
- Present recommendations for corrective actions and optimization strategies based on analysis to the operations team during a project review meeting.
- Collaborate with the Technical Asset Manager to help develop and document a performance optimization plan for a specific solar farm.
- Participate in problem-solving sessions with engineering and technical teams to help resolve a selected performance-related issue, documenting the process and outcome.
- Monitor and maintain high-frequency data pipelines to support operations, asset management, and executive-level teams.
- Ship code and maintain testing related to Heelstones solar plant modeling engine using the pvlib python library.

Highly proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPointExperience with Azure Cloud infrastructure, Docker, PowerBI, and / or web app development tools such as Dash or React.Exceptional analytical capabilities and attention to detailSelf-starter that operates well in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environmentStrong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities, and resolving issues proactivelyAbility to work concurrently on a variety of projects, prioritize efforts, and work effectively under pressure.Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skillsStrong organization and management skillsEDUCATION / PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE :
Actively pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in one of the following areas : Finance, Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Energy Systems), Business Administration, Sustainability or Environmental Science, Data Analytics or Information Systems (with energy focus preferred)Prior internship or project experience in renewable energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.Proficiency with Python, SQL, Git.Exposure to financial modeling, data analysis, or reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, or similar).Experience working with contracts or documentation related to energy projects (PPA, O&M, financing).Familiarity with project management or process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, Agile).Hands-on experience with software platforms used in asset management, compliance, or data migration (e.g., Salesforce, SAP, or custom ERP systems).Participation in student-led sustainability or energy clubs, competitions, or capstone projects.If you are interested in gaining hands-on experience in the renewable energy industry and see firsthand what its like to work in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment, we would like to meet you!
