Position Summary :

The Senior Accountant supports the accounting team in maintaining accurate financial records across corporate and property-level entities. This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting tasks including general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and financial reporting. The Senior Accountant works closely with internal teams and third-party property managers to ensure timely and accurate financial data, supports investor distributions, and assists with construction-related accounting.

Location : Suffern, NY (Right off Route 287, close to Garden State Parkway and Route 17)

Schedule : Full-time, Hybrid - 2 Work-from-Home Fridays per month

Key Responsibilities :

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Review monthly financial statements for assigned properties.
  • Record and reconcile mortgage, escrow, insurance, tax, AR / AP, and intercompany entries.
  • Maintain schedules for insurance, taxes, and capital calls.
  • Assist with quarterly investor distributions, including preparing payment documentation.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and update daily cash balances across multiple accounts.
  • Import trial balances into Yardi and verify general ledger mapping.
  • Process AP and ensure transaction recording.
  • Organize and maintain accounting files and documentation.

Construction Accounting Support

  • Generate and track construction management fee invoices.
  • Maintain organized invoice records in shared filing location.
  • Cash Management

  • Monitor rent sweep accounts and ensure sufficient funds for mortgage payments.
  • Assist in coordinating transfers between partnership and property accounts.
  • Prepare weekly cash reports for internal distribution.
  • Intercompany Transactions

  • Assist in tracking and reconciling intercompany payments.
  • Work with third-party accountants to ensure accurate general ledger entries.
  • Tax & Compliance

  • Maintain records for personal property tax filings.
  • Coordinate with external tax professionals to support timely submissions.
  • Systems & Reporting

  • Support Yardi data imports and general ledger mapping accuracy.
  • Assist in maintaining consistent reporting across entities.
  • Administrative & Ad Hoc Support

  • Manage incoming accounting mail and distribute it to appropriate team members.
  • Scan and process checks for deposit.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from Finance and Asset Management.
  • Additional Responsibilities :

  • Perform additional duties assigned by direct supervisor and upper-level management.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property management.
  • Familiarity with both property-level and corporate-level accounting preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Proficiency in Yardi and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Professional handling of confidential financial information.

    Salary Range : $110,000-$120,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
