Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring ICU experience and active IL RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an 18-bed Neuro ICU within an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes ventrics, stroke (with or without tPA), and craniotomy cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 2
  • Common procedures include ventriculostomy, ventilators, arterial / central lines, tPA administration, and acute stroke management
  • RNs are required to titrate drips and follow physician orders for various infusions
  • Uses EPIC charting system
  • Phillips monitors are used and RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • Three 12-hour day shifts each week from 7a-7p with rotating weekends and holidays
  • Travelers may be required to float to other units, including intermediate and general floors
  • Responsibilities include managing neurological critical care patients and titrating drips as ordered
  • Unit is supported by charge nurses, a house supervisor on every shift, nurse aides / patient care techs, and telemetry techs
  • Staff may be required to provide assistance with RT equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
  • Includes department-specific orientation totaling 20 hours
  • Every other weekend and rotating holiday coverage is required
  • Local candidates are accepted with local rate adjustment if residing within 50 miles

    • Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA required)
  • Experience with ventriculostomy, ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, and post-craniectomy care
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification required
  • Previous acute care neuro ICU experience
  • Ability to interpret telemetry using Phillips monitors
  • Must pass a comprehensive drug screen
