St. Norbert College, a nationally ranked, private Catholic liberal arts institution, is seeking an Assistant Manager for Ruth's Marketplace. As the Assistant Manager, you'll oversee the daily operations of the meal service plan and ensure the smooth functioning of the Marketplace during breakfast and lunch. This role puts you on the front lines, supporting the "front of the house" team, addressing customer service needs, and resolving issues as they arise.
Regular work hours are Monday - Friday, 10 : 00 am – 6 : 30 pm during the academic year. The hours will flex with the needs of the business, and shifts may be scheduled between 7 : 00 am - 9 : 00 pm. Summer hours are determined by conference business needs. This position works special event weekends as needed to support College business.
Specific responsibilities :
Manage the staff and operational aspects of breakfast and lunch service at Ruth’s Marketplace, collaborating closely with the PM Assistant Manager to ensure seamless daily operations. Coordinate and implement staffing and layout plans for special student event meals, summer contract dining, and the commencement meal.
Hire, mentor, and manage employment-related responsibilities for ten direct reports, including conducting annual performance evaluations.
Ensure the safe operation of equipment and uphold food preparation and service sanitation standards. Enforce and follow all Dining Services policies and procedures.
Facilitate staff interaction with other dining departments, such as Production, Catering, Campus Card Services, and Event Services.
Collaborate daily with the AM Sous Chef and Assistant Head Chef to ensure smooth meal plan execution and efficient meal service. Support the Marketplace Manager with tasks such as electronic menu updates, social media content, and posting nutrition information.
Provide support with administrative tasks, including tracking and reporting on budget expenditures.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

10 full-time Marketplace staff
3 part-time Marketplace Helpers
College and high school student staff
Required Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma required; associate’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management preferred
3–5 years of experience in food service and supervising staff
Serve Safe certification desired (or ability to obtain on the job)
Strong leadership and role-modeling skills
Excellent communication and customer service abilities
Skilled at resolving conflicts and maintaining professionalism under pressure
Able to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Apps; quick to learn new software
Competent in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Experienced in planning and executing events, programs, and projects
Able to focus and perform well in a noisy environment
