Job Summary :
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented intern to support our 5S implementation and workplace standardization initiatives. This role will be instrumental in organizing, labeling, auditing, and developing visual and procedural standards across various zones of the plant. The intern will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and sustain a clean, safe, and efficient workplace.
Duties / Responsibilities :
1. 5S Implementation & Standardization
- Assist in planning and executing 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) across departments.
- Support visual management efforts by developing standardized labels, signage, and layout instructions.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to organize tools, parts, and workstations for optimal efficiency.
2. Documentation & SOP Development
Create and maintain comprehensive 5S standardization documents, including :Area-specific 5S checklistsLabeling formats and placement guidelinesVisual aids such as floor maps, shadow boards, and before-after documentationDraft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for 5S-related tasks.3. Audit Framework Design & Evaluation
Help design and implement a 5S audit protocol tailored to different zones (production, storage, offices, etc.).Collaborate with supervisors to establish audit frequency, roles, and evaluation processes.Develop reporting templates for audit outcomes and follow-up actions.4. Scoring System & Performance Tracking
Develop a zone-wise 5S scoring system to objectively track progress and sustainment.Create scorecards or dashboards to display audit scores, trends, and improvement metrics.Recommend recognition or reward systems linked to 5S performance.Required Skills / Abilities / Experience / Education :
Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.Basic understanding of lean manufacturing, workplace organization, or continuous improvement tools.Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of Power BI is a plus.Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively on the shop floor with cross-functional teams.Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and eager to learn.Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer as well as prolonged periods on the shop floor standing.Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.Commitment to Equal Opportunity :
