Overview

IndyStar is seeking an Indianapolis Colts Reporter. We are looking for someone who can produce high-value storytelling that includes context and analysis, entertaining features and investigative pieces.

IndyStar is winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, including in 2021 for national reporting. You’ll work with and learn from some of journalism’s best while living in a vibrant and diverse city in the heart of the Midwest. The position will report to sports editor Nat Newell. The ability to break news is critical, and this reporter must be able to develop strong sourcing. This reporter will develop content that takes advantage of all delivery forms available to us, including social media, podcast, video, television and online. Our mission is clear : IndyStar informs, empowers and inspires the people of Central Indiana with our journalism. We deliver journalism that is essential to the communities we serve with urgency.

Responsibilities

• Primary responsibilities will focus on coverage of the Indianapolis Colts.
• Would also assist in coverage of big events (Indy 500, NCAA events, etc.).
• Be a curious, assertive and self-starting journalist who jumps to report on breaking news and trending topics with urgency.
• Harness social media and messaging platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and Reddit, as news gathering tools.
• Optimize stories for target audience groups using SEO and metrics information.
