Overview

Are you looking for a job that focuses on engineering with minimal administrative duties? The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) Engineering and Special Projects Office (ESPO) is seeking an Environmental Consulting Engineer to provide in-house engineering support to DTSC project managers who oversee environmental cleanups and permit hazardous waste facilities throughout the state. This role offers a stable, flexible schedule with minimal travel and the opportunity to perform technical work on a wide variety of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review or prepare technical engineering reports and other documents, including Phase I reports, Preliminary Endangerment Assessments, site characterization workplans and reports, sampling and analysis plans, human health and ecological risk assessments, pilot and treatability studies, feasibility studies, remedy selection documents, design, implementation, completion reports, operation and maintenance plans, five-year reviews and long-term monitoring reports for compliance with approved plans.
  • Investigate and evaluate earth materials including soil, rock, groundwater, and man-made materials and their interaction with retention systems, foundations, and other civil engineering works.
  • Evaluate designs, plans and construction of new buildings, or alterations and extensions to existing properties or other structures.
  • Evaluate site characterization data to support engineering remedial design and implementation.
  • Perform statistical and trend analysis on data to define the overall effectiveness of remedial treatment technology.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with environmental remediation
  • Ability to work independently
  • Licensed civil engineer preferred
  • Knowledge of geotechnical, seismic analysis, and slope stability is a plus
  • A strong understanding of chemistry is also desired
