Position Overview :
The Manager of Mediated Experiences, will develop, implement, and manage initiatives to enhance the guest experience and engagement throughout the Museum galleries and mediated experiences. The Manager of Mediated Experiences will report directly to the Sr. Director of Education. The Manager of Mediated Experiences supervises a team of Educators who conduct gallery presentations, one-on-one interactions, object demonstrations, digital and in-person outreach programs, guided tours, and mediated experiences. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations within the galleries, Crime Lab, Firearms Training Simulator and Distillery Tasting. This individual is responsible for the professional development of education staff as well as the development and continual refinement of educational and interpretive programs throughout the Museum’s mediated experiences and galleries. This individual will offer thoughtful feedback to leadership that assists the Sr. Director of Education in establishing organizational training initiatives and development of all Educators.
This individual will consistently work to enhance the experience of Museum guests. The Manager of Mediated Experiences assists with stewarding development of the larger team. The Manager of Mediated Experiences is a key member of the Museum team, providing leadership in support of the Mission, Vision and Core Values of the organization.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities :
- Responsible for the oversight and professional development of front-line supervisors and public-facing Educator staff who maintain responsibility for the delivery of a diverse and flexible range of educational programs and mediated experiences.
- Assist with stewarding mission-driven programs and presentations in all museum spaces.
- Analyze guest feedback and provide critical input to leadership, collaborating with the Sr. Director of Education and the Sr. Director of Guest Experience, in order to improve the overall guest experience.
- Develop and lead position-specific training protocols for Educators in the areas of guest engagement, instructional methods, content delivery and artifact handling.
- Provide staff development, through general performance management, conducting group meetings, individual coaching, performance reviews, and support of the team.
- Role model superior guest engagement, public speaking and instructional skills.
- Oversee day-to-day operations in the Galleries and Mediated Experiences, including but not limited to direct staff supervision, coaching, troubleshooting, and supply management.
- Serve as lead in developing, implementing and supervising the delivery of educator-led gallery programs and presentations.
- Work with the Sr. Director of Education to create new educational offerings and initiatives, including but not limited to gallery talks, object demonstrations, short- and long-form presentations, and guided tours.
- Assist in the development and facilitation of one-off presentations and special activations such as speaker residencies, community partner programs and other special offerings, including but not limited to classic car shows, K9 demonstrations, and pop-up exhibits.
- Be present in the public spaces, directly observing the quality of the guest experience and performance of staff with high frequency to inform ongoing improvement efforts.
- Prepare pre-shift materials, briefing staff on operational updates, group sales, upcoming events, impacts on operations, etc. to staff in front facing spaces.
- Work with the Sales team to coordinate guided tours and other educational services for private events and group bookings.
- Maintain an entertaining, innovative, informative, and diverse guest experience, with the primary goal of promoting the organization’s mission of advancing the public understanding of organized crime’s history and impact on American society while ensuring a world-class guest experience for Museum visitors.
- Maintain a strong and ever-evolving knowledge of organized crime and law enforcement history and related contemporary issues.
- With proficiency and diplomacy, communicate complex issues related to the Museum’s subject matter including matters related to use-of-force, policing, and historic and contemporary organized crime.
- Perform basic maintenance of mediated experiences including troubleshooting technology components, inspecting and repairing broken or malfunctioning parts of equipment.
- Work closely with the Sr. Director of Education and Sr. Director of Guest Experience to implement programs that incent, recognize, and reward behaviors that are consistent with the Museum Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
- Aid in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work environment.
- Administer schedule and payroll approval for Educator staff.
- Stay abreast of organizational and community happenings such that staff will be knowledgeable and readily disseminate relevant information to guests.
- Ensure the active promotion of daily Museum offerings, upcoming programs and events.
- Demonstrate leadership in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work environment.
- Occasionally provide support in an as-needed capacity in Manager-on-Duty rotation, which includes operational oversight of all departments within the museum (Education, Box Office, Retail, Concessions, Photo, Parking, Security, and Volunteers).
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience / Qualifications / Requirements :
Minimum of 3 years of experience in educational programming at an educational, cultural or entertainment attraction.Must be able to work evenings and weekends.Experience in supervising, training, motivating, and developing staff is required.Strong public speaking and written communication skills are a must.Must have or obtain a Work Card, Health, and TAM card within reasonable time from start date.Must demonstrate sensitivity and awareness of issues relating to access and inclusion.Must demonstrate an understanding and sensitivity to the complexity of use-of-force issues.Able to interact effectively with a broad spectrum of age levels and cultural backgrounds.Experience with firearms safety, or willingness to undergo training, preferred.Comfortable responding to visceral guest reactions with the Firearms Training Simulator and assisting as they process the experience / information provided.Able to manage people effectively in high stress situations and to collaborate well across departments.Familiarity with organized crime history, Las Vegas history, Prohibition, or the history of distilled spirits is a plus.Familiarity with law enforcement, military, use-of-force, or similar training methods is a plus.Proficiency in languages in addition to English is a plus.Proven ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, community organizations, and the public.Strong organizational skills and software competency in Excel, Word, and PowerPointFlexible, innovative, self-motivated, and able to work independently.Competence in using a computer (MS Office Applications).Must have the physical ability and emotional presence to handle high-stress situations such as building evacuations, guest ejections, and injuries.Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and traverse the exhibit spaces and museum.Passion for creating a world-class museum that is unrivaled in content and recognized for a truly outstanding guest experience.Eagerness and capability of serving as consistent role model for Museum’s Core Values : Bold Thinking, Taking Responsibility, People Driven, Commitment to Community, and Thrive, embodying each value in spirit and practice.Enthusiasm for working in an organization where change is frequent, structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.Education : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
