Site Director Of Child Development

The City of La Habra is recruiting to fill the position of Site Director of Child Development in the Community Services Department. This position is grant funded for a specific program and its duration is subject to continuation of grant funds.

ABOUT THE CITY : City of La Habra is located at Orange County's northernmost corner; La Habra today is 7.3 square miles, with a population of nearly 62,000. A quiet bedroom community, it is conveniently located within an hour's drive of many beaches, mountain, and desert recreation areas. The City is known for the Tamale Festival, Corn Festival, Citrus Fair, and the Children's Museum and Depot Theatre.

DEFINITION : Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Child Development, Assistant Child Development Director, and / or the Program Specialist, the Child Development Center Site Director administers daily operations of a development center program operating at a site with the following major responsibilities : plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates the instructional preschool and / or school-age activities to promote developmentally appropriate student learning; trains and evaluates the performance of assigned staff; coordinates implementation of curriculum, staff and program development activities, promotes and implements the philosophies of the child development program, provides leadership for center staff, families, and students, and assumes and performs related work as necessary or required.

(Duties may include, but are not limited to the following) :

• Administer, plan, oversee, and evaluate preschool and / or school-age instructional activities promoting developmentally appropriate student learning according to established guidelines and in compliance with applicable laws, codes, rules, regulations, and licensing requirements.
• Determine staffing requirements, interview, select, assign, train, evaluate performance of, and recommend discipline of Child Development employees.
• Formulate and develop policies, procedures, rules, regulations, programs, and activities to enhance Preschool and School-age program and services, develop and implement plans for the preschool and school-age in areas related to special needs, recruiting students, and estimating needed program equipment and supplies.
• Coordinate, facilitate, and assist staff in developing curriculum and implementing technology to meet changing needs / requirements of the preschool program.
• Ensure that all State Preschool and / or General Child Care grant and licensing requirements are met.
• Analyze and review budgetary and financial data, control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.
• Manage and implement parent education including orientations, advisory meetings, trainings, monthly newsletters, and program participation.
• Coordinate and schedule field trips and special events.
• Conduct safety inspections of site and oversee correction of safety concern.
• Coordinate required summative preschool assessments as well as on-going formative assessments.
• Oversee and participate in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to preschool activities, students, personnel, and family engagement.
• May act for the Program Specialist, Assistant Child Development Manager or Executive Director of Child Development in absence of direct supervision.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE : Must have one of the following issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing each of which has specific education and experience requirements :

A Bachelor's degree in education, child development, educational administration, or related field is preferred. Minimum two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in management and supervision in an educational setting, preferable in early childhood education. Must have excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

CERTIFICATE / LICENSE REQUIREMENTS : Pediatric First Aid and CPR certified.
