Role Overview
The Fabric R&D Manager will be responsible for the sourcing and development of all the RTW materials including fabrics, yarns and trims. Is a textile expert working to ensure highest quality, sharpest cost and best timing. This role is responsible for initial sourcing from initial concept through production.
Essential Duties
- Partner with the Design to source new and innovative materials each season, attending fabric appointments, and manage a physical fabric library
- Maintain update to date records of all materials, lab dips and s / offs on a seasonal basis.
- Build seasonal material and color boards for key meetings.
- Communicating color and quality comments to mills at all stages of development. Then following up on pending submits to ensure all materials have an approved standard.
- Help strategize future fabric commitments for core materials
- Analyze and report out fabric costing ensuring that team is on track to hit fabric price buckets. Countering materials when needed
- Be able to assess a problem and make solution recommendations to greater team
- Correspond daily with mills on all fabric development, manage relationships.
- Monitor number of materials, ensure team is staying within development targets.
- Working to expedite leadtimes and help position fabric to increase speed to market.
- Assist production in reviewing and commenting on bulk materials
Prerequisite Knowledge, Skills, & Education
Minimum of 5 years of textile sourcing experience and / or product development requiresAbility to thrive in a fast-paced environment and is open to change.Ability to adapt to new situations quickly.Entrepreneurial mentality; resourceful with creative problem-solving skills.Exhibit personal leadership and strategic mindset.Experience working with factories and mills directly.Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Physical and Mental Requirements
