Qualifications
- Massachusetts certification as a teacher in ESL (5-12), required
- Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Core-Content Frameworks and WIDA 2020 ELD Standards
- Knowledge of second language learning and sheltering content, Massachusetts standards-based ESL Model Curriculum Units (MCUs), standard and alternative methods of assessment, and data-driven instruction
- WIDA ACCESS Test Administrator : Online
- Demonstrated ability to co-teach in the SEI classroom : coursework and / or experience in co-planning, co-teaching, co-assessment, and co-reflection with a Sheltered Content Immersion (SCI) core-academic teacher
- Extensive coursework completion in teaching reading / literacy skills to students at the high school level
- Experience working with Students with Limited and / or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) and English learner-students with disabilities (ELSWD)
- Training and experience in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
- Excellent computer / technology skills with the ability to utilize various computer software and app programs
- Committed to the vision of high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic and linguistic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap
- A self-reflective, active learner capable of interactive dialogue with all members of the school community
- A positive person, willing to become involved in the academic and social aspects of school life
- Bilingual Proficiency (Spanish and / or Portuguese), preferred
- Completion of the 2-hour online Language Ambassador Training Course, certificate required upon hire
Duties & Responsibilities
Teach English Language Development (ELD) to English Learners (ELs) in a self-contained ESL classroom and / or co-teach in Sheltered Content Immersion (SCI) classroomsCo-plan, co-teach, co-assess, and co-reflect with assigned Sheltered Content Immersion (SCI) core-academic teacher(s)Teach explicit ELD to students at varying English Proficiency levels, aligned to WIDA Can Dos and WIDA Language ChartsDevelop and refine in-district ESL content-integrated curriculum maps, aligned to MA Frameworks and WIDA 2020 StandardsScreening and assessment of all ELs, including WIDA ACCESS, in-district progress monitoring assessments, involvement in MCAS administration of ELs, and assisting with the administration of the ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) for students seeking the Seal of BiliteracyDevelop, implement, and consistently monitor language goals and objectives for students per the English learner frameworks, and keep parents informed about student language development progressCommunicate regularly with families of ELs via email, face-to-face meetings, and communication appsCollaborate with EL Coordinator / building administration on budget and purchase ordersAttend the IEP Team meetings and work with the Special Education Team Chair to discuss ELSWD culturally and linguistically relevant IEP development, accommodations, and modifications, aligned to EL's language proficiency level and disabilityProvide a positive, structured learning environmentAbility to actively collaborate with other members of the department and teamJ-18808-Ljbffr
