Qualifications :
Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience in the ocean transportation industry, as shipping and receiving clerk inspecting the handling, storage, and stowing of cargoes, including direct discharge and yard load-out of steel and aluminum cargoes.Must have the ability to read, write, and speak Intermediate EnglishMust have High School Diploma or equivalentMust be able to accurately process alpha / numeric informationMust have the ability to function effectively in a fast paced, team oriented work environmentMust have the ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiativeMust have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employeesMust have the ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisionsThe position requires a flexible schedule, including rotating overnight and day shifts, weekends, holidays and extended hours as neededDuties and Responsibilities :
Perform all functions in accordance with operating and safety guidelinesRecord stow locations of cargo and containers and translate into stow plansFollow stow plan, created by Port Captain, when loading and discharging cargo and containers from vesselRecord, track, and verify cargo and container information, utilizing hand-held computerPerform direct discharge and yard load-out of steel and aluminum cargoes, including filling out dock receipts and maintaining a running tally of discharged and shipped cargoes.Coordinate with Foreman and Clerk-in-Charge (CIC) of the placement of containers and cargo on the vesselNotify Clerk-in-Charge (CIC) of discrepancies and / or damages of cargo or containersCoordinate and supervise Checker activities including, but not limited to, empty container inspection and tagging, loaded container seal inspections, checking of break bulk and general cargoes to confirm port / weight / status (RLS / HLD), etc. when assigned to each vesselMaintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards and awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, people, equipment, etc.) at all timesSecondary :
Keep tally on bagged cargo vesselsAssist south yard clerks in receiving cargoPerform other related tasks as assignedPhysical Requirements :
