Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Development, this position is responsible for planning, developing, and executing comprehensive major and principal gift strategies to secure private donations in support of the University with regional fundraising and strategy. The person in this position will possess strong communication and analytical skills, superb work ethic, proven problem-solving skills, and proven ability to manage through change and foster teamwork and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 100-125 major and principal gift prospects capable of making gifts of $50,000 or more.
• Conducts approximately 120-140 strategic in-person or strategic donor visits annually across additional key areas four major markets nationally including Greater New York, Chicago, Kansas City, and Florida; working with prospects in Missouri while not traveling to the regions. The gift officer will spend at least 2-3 trips for each region and others as assigned, and travel within the state of Missouri and greater St. Louis region to visit prospects and donors.
• This individual will collaborate closely with colleagues across UMSL's schools, colleges, and programs to align strategy and maximize philanthropic support in a key assigned regions.
• Successfully solicits approximately 18-20 major and principal gifts annually.
• Meets metrics established with supervisor on an annual basis including but not limited to number of prospect or donor meetings, major gift solicitations, and dollars raised.
• Intentionally evaluates, makes decisions, and leads processes and programs that increases major gift productively and outcomes in the Division in particular with regional fundraising.
• Manages budget and best practices for supporting the department and division for budgeting donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Represents the entire range of university fundraising priorities to major gift prospects as appropriate.
• Identifies and solves complex, operational, and organizational problems leveraging the appropriate resources within or outside the department.
• Routinely collaborates with Planned Giving to solicit prospects capable of making a planned gift.
• Routinely collaborates with External and Donor Relations on Division and individual donor recognition efforts and practices.
• Coordinate foundation asks with the CFR team routinely.
• Maintains knowledge on gift documentation practices. Submits gift forms and agreements within established timeframes and ensures consistent accuracy.
• Leads and assists in the preparation of proposals, correspondence, and reports that contribute to major gift fundraising activities.
• Effectively and proactively communicates with donors, colleagues, and university leadership verbally, in writing, or through a variety of presentations.
• Implements policies and practices for the area, noting where efficiencies can be made.
• Oversees and provides guidance to various Advancement processes, plans, and programs.
• Participates in assigned leadership-level meetings on campus, with the ability to fully represent the Division of Advancement and / or Office of Development as assigned.
• Creates reporting and tracking mechanisms to measure fundraising progress as well as prospect and moves management and other communication and planning tools in the CRM in line with Division and Department goals and expectations.
• Enters contact reports, proposals, and other data into the CRM in a timely manner. Critically evaluates data and pulls reports to utilize for decision making.
• Develop and submit Annual Business Plan; sets functional priorities and allocates budgetary and staff resources to align with business objectives and annual plan(s).
• Proactively sources and applies new and emerging best practices and industry standards to achieve personal and team goals.
• Travels locally, and nationally for donor appointments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range : $85,000-$95,000
