Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Float Pool night position requiring at least 2 years' experience and strong IV and telemetry skills.
Responsibilities Work in the Med / Surg Float Pool within a hospital setting
Float to all medical and surgical floors as part of the Centralized Resource Nursing Pool
Night shifts are 12 hours, 18 : 45 - 07 : 15, with a 36-hour work week
Required to work every other weekend, with self-scheduling according to unit needs
Patient ratios typically 1 : 6, may increase to 1 : 7 during critical staffing
Patient population includes general med / surg cases (no cardiac telemetry patients)
Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR systems for charting and medication management
Up to 24 hours of unit orientation provided
Navy or white scrubs required
Expected to float to any med / surg unit or nearby affiliated hospitals based on census and skills
Assignment to Storm or Hurricane Team is required during catastrophic events, with possible consolidation to central office or preassignment to units as needed
Candidates must be comfortable with floating and adaptable to changing assignments
No RTO approved after booking; up to 7 days RTO allowed before booking as long as RTO does not fall on holidays, and must work 2 of 3 major holidays
No RTO allowed during the first week due to orientation
Not eligible if currently in a travel Per Diem role at this health system or if employed there within the past 12 months without facility rehire approval
Travel pairs allowed but must work on separate units
Candidates living under 50 miles from the facility will be offered a local rate
Completion of online and in-person modules required before start and annually
Requirements Active NC or compact RN license required at start (pending allowed for consideration)
Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in a med / surg setting
Experience with IV starts and telemetry required
Current BCLS certification required
Must pass EKG testing before start
Epic charting experience required
Unit does not accept first-time travelers
