Position Overview

The Authorization and Eligibility Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring that clients receive timely and accurate access to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. This position is responsible for verifying client insurance benefits, obtaining and tracking service authorizations, maintaining payer communication, and ensuring compliance with insurance requirements. The specialist works closely with clinical, billing, and administrative teams to support smooth service delivery and reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities

Verify client eligibility and insurance benefits for ABA therapy and related services prior to intake and at regular intervals.

Obtain initial and ongoing authorizations from insurance companies, including submission of treatment plans, progress reports, and other required documentation.

Track authorization dates, service limits, and renewal deadlines to prevent service interruptions.

Communicate with payers to resolve discrepancies or delays in authorizations.

Maintain detailed, organized records of authorizations and eligibility checks in the company’s electronic health record (EHR) or practice management system.

Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure documentation meets payer requirements for approval.

Notify clinical and billing staff of any changes in eligibility, authorization status, or coverage limitations.

Support the billing team with accurate authorization data to ensure timely claims submission.

Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations at all times.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field preferred.

Minimum of 1–2 years experience in medical authorization, insurance verification, or billing (ABA or behavioral health experience strongly preferred).

Working knowledge of major insurance payers and ABA-specific billing / authorization processes.

Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.

Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHR / practice management systems (e.g., CentralReach, Rethink, or TherapyNotes preferred).

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range : $40,000 – $60,000 per year , commensurate with experience
